  • ActsĀ asĀ LegalĀ InternĀ forĀ theĀ OhioĀ Department ofĀ AgricultureĀ (ODA)Ā LegalĀ Office

  • UnderĀ directionĀ ofĀ ODAĀ counsel,Ā conducts legal research of caseĀ &Ā statutory law,Ā constitutional,Ā stateĀ &/or federal rules,Ā opinions &/or orders on behalf ofĀ ODAĀ divisions

  • UnderĀ directionĀ ofĀ counsel,Ā draftsĀ andĀ preparesĀ variousĀ legalĀ documentsĀ regarding agencyĀ operations, including memoranda,Ā noticesĀ ofĀ intended enforcement,Ā director's orders,Ā and responsesĀ to public records requests

  • Assists ODA counsel with fulfilling public records requests including but not limited to reviewing records for relevancy/accuracy,Ā redacting nonpublic information, auditing redacted paperwork


Performs other relatedĀ dutiesĀ asĀ assigned:



  • UsesĀ Microsoft software to draft documents

  • Prepares confidential correspondence

  • HandlesĀ sensitiveĀ telephoneĀ calls,Ā maintainsĀ logs,Ā recordsĀ &Ā files

  • TravelsĀ toĀ attendĀ meetingsĀ &Ā training asĀ requested by Chief LegalĀ Counsel


What Will You Gain:



  • Learn Ohioā€™s Sunshine Laws and review public records

  • Perform legal research and draft memorandum to find solutions to legal issues arising from ODAā€™s divisions

  • Learn fundamental skills for government attorneys such as reviewing investigative work to determine if ODA has sufficient evidence to proceed to an Administrative Hearing and drafting Notices of Opportunity for Hearing

  • Observe administrative hearings and public meetings

  • Gain a better understanding of ODAā€™s work through observing meetings with ODAā€™s divisions and participating in ride-alongs, when possible


**This is a fullĀ time paid summerĀ internship. This position isĀ inĀ theĀ office five days a weekĀ at 8995 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg,Ā OH 43068. This is notĀ a remote or hybrid position.**
