Amazon is seeking an International Tax Manager to focus on US international income tax reporting and compliance (including 5471s/8858s, elections, statements, and disclosures etc.), the international aspects of the US GAAP worldwide income tax provision, and tax reform. The person in this role will focus primarily on the taxation of cross-border business activities and transactions. The successful candidate will support complex tax calculations, process improvements, data automation, and evaluate tax implications of legislative proposals and changes in facts. The person in this role will also provide support for Amazonβs US and international controversy teams in responding to tax audits and information inquiries.
Key job responsibilities
- Primarily responsible for researching effects of various international transactions and prepare and/or manage/review the related required US income tax reporting disclosures.
- Collaborate cross-functionally across various teams within and outside of tax.
- Gather requirements, collaborate on design and process improvements, and implement and support direct tax models.
- Drive process improvements and coordinate with Tax Technology Team to facilitate streamlining and automation of recurring calculations.
- Research and understand potential tax legislation and participate in modeling different scenarios.
- Research effects of various international transactions and prepare and/or manage/review the related required US income tax reporting disclosures.
- Assist in US International reporting and compliance obligations (Forms 5471, 8858, 8865, 8991, 8992, 8993, 8621, disclosure statements, Form 1120F etc.).
- Prepare and/or review Subpart F, E&P, tax pools and foreign tax credits calculations.
- Foreign tax credit planning/modeling.
- Prepare and/or review international aspects of Amazonβs worldwide provision.
Document direct tax reporting obligations through creating and/or reviewing audit-ready workpapers and supporting memoranda.
- Management of junior tax professionals (staff/seniors) and outside service providers.

About the team
This opportunity for an International Tax Analyst will join a diverse team of experienced tax professionals responsible for the tax compliance, analysis, and tax controllership for all aspects of U.S. international tax provisions (e.g., Foreign Derived Intangible Income, Foreign Currency Gain/Loss, Dual-Consolidated Losses, Foreign Tax Credits, GILTI, Subpart F, etc.). Additionally, this team collaborates with tax colleagues globally on a variety of OECD BEPS and certain local-country tax regimes that interact or overlap with the application of U.S. tax rules.
- 5+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level
- Experience working in a large public accounting firm or multi-national corporate tax department
- BA/BS in Accounting or equivalent
- CPA preferred
- JD, MST, LLM desirable
- Direct tax experience including relevant experience with international income tax compliance/reporting
- ASC 740 accounting for income taxes knowledge and experience
- Project management skills
- Tax operational background and ability to drive process improvements
- Tax preparation software experience helpful to aid in review
- Proficiency in at least one data-focused technology tool, such as Python, SQL, Alteryx, advanced Excel, VBA, Amazon QuickSight, Tableau, Power BI, or similar, is helpful
- Experience with Essbase and Oracle Financial Applications helpful

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $80,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $172,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
