Reporting to the Director, Operations, the Contract/Legal Intern will be actively involved in creating, reviewing and editing legal documents and contracts, will assist in optimizing workflow processes for contracts, trademark licensing agreements and non-disclosure agreements, and will research and monitor legal matters pertinent to the industry and provide summaries of new developments as needed. During this internship, the Contract/Legal Intern will have the opportunity to collaborate across the National Pork Board with other staff members, with outside counsel, and with staff from the USDA.


Role Responsibility:Β 

  • Assist with drafting standard contracts, trademark licensing agreements, and non-disclosure agreements
  • Review legal documents on behalf of NPB staff and provide assistance and/or interpretation under the supervision of a licensed attorney
  • Assist with trademark and copyright management
  • Develop document storage recommendations
  • Perform legal research as needed
  • Monitor legal matters in the industry and summarize new developments for leadership
  • Other tasks as assigned

Requirements

Β Criteria for applying:

  • Currently pursuing a law degree
  • Preferred educational experience: 1L or 2L
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to take complex concepts and make them simple
  • Ability to learn fast in an agile environment
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple projects

Duration of internship: 12 weeks

  • Preferred timeline: May 2025 – August 2025
  • Hours: 40 hrs./week
  • Internships are paid starting at $17/hourΒ 
  • Opportunity to continue on a part time basis through Fall 2025
  • All intern positions are based at our office in Clive, IA.
  • All interns will be expected to secure their own housing for the summer; a living stipend is provided.
